U-Lit Records

U-Lit Records is an independent record label founded in 2003 by Stone E, 7th Rest and ManicM. The company can be considered to be sprung from Geesthuis Entertainment, an underground collective of likeminded folks sharing a history in making music with and for each other.

U-Lit, which is short for Underground Enlightenment, focuses on releasing the work of talented artists mostly living and working in the region of Alkmaar, the Netherlands, with no restrictions whatsoever concerning the style and substance of their music. If the music is genuine, there's a big chance we're gonna put it out there for everyone to enjoy...

So far, in thinking beyond borders and giving local musicians some artistic breathing space, U-Lit's catalogue consists of a wide variety of genres, such as ska, hiphop, stoner rock, punk, and various forms of electronic music like minimalism, digital hardcore and ambient.

Alpyne

Alpyne is a producer/writer/rapper/engineer/label owner/everything else from southern Illinios/western Kentucky. He's been doing this rap thing seriously since 1999, but started in the game early in life. Growing up in a small town housing projects, he was subjected to the grind early. Without getting into to much detail (because he will give you the stories through his music), lets just say he's made it out. If you want to hear another side of the struggle, give Alpyne a listen. He will entertain you with the club joints you want, and make you think far beyond what you expected to be thinking about when you turn up a new hip hop ablum in the very next song. His high intelligence, combine with serious street savy and long time struggles with many, many outside forces, will give one intense musical ride!

Khul Rhema

Khul Rhema

Crunk Keeper of the Word

Tico Hudson, aka Khul Rhema, a Stellar award-winning producer and one of the originators of infusing the crunk sound into Holy Hip Hop as member of hit gospel rap group Ziklag Boys, is back on the mic with his upcoming national solo debut “What the World Needs Now”. Promising to add some heat to one of the hottest months of the year, the July 3rd, 2007 release adds a bit of maturity to his characteristic energetic crunk sound.

With a rap moniker that literally means “keeper of the word” in ancient Aramaic, his goal was to maintain the same party feel he’s known for while including a thread of God’s greatest commandment – to love Him with all our heart, mind, and soul and to love our neighbors as ourselves – throughout the entire project. And like most sold-out believers, God’s love is now something that Tico is intimately acquainted with, but it wasn’t always that way. Through a series of events that included dealing drugs, death threats, gang affiliation, and homelessness – Tico eventually accepted that the power of God could change his life. It is this acceptance that led Tico to the artistry that is admired by so many today.

After encountering gospel rap for the first time, Tico’s initial negative reaction to the genre turned around when Tico realized that it was God's will that he get on the mic and use his gift of making music to represent the Kingdom of God. "This is what I want you to do," said the still, yet recognizable voice of God.

Since then, Tico has set out to fulfill this great call of God on his life, winning souls through his music and dynamic performances, for the most part alongside a group that he founded in late 2000 on the campus of World Changers Church International - the legendary 'Ziklag Boys,' who, before their retirement, garnered such honors as a Grammy and Stellar award nomination in 2005, as well as reportedly being the first gospel rap group to gain regular rotation on a secular station. Under Tico's leadership, Ziklag traveled abroad (Virgin Islands, Chicago, Houston, New York, Indianapolis, etc.), receiving love and admiration by believers and non-believers alike (they were courted by the likes of BME, Lil' Jon's independent label and Stankonia - Outkast's now defunct independent) while independently moving over 20,000 units internationally.

After the Ziklag era, Tico has worked diligently at developing his career as a producer, proving to be one of the hottest producers on the rise in 2006. He has gone on to win a Stellar Award in 2006 for his production work on "The Sequel," the LP release by Lil' I Rocc (Authority/Whitaker) which earned two (2) Stellars, one being for 'Best Hip Hop/Rap Album of the Year.' He also has produced work for renowned superstar producer, Dallas Austin, (TLC, Michael Jackson, Outkast, Boys II Men, Mariah Carey, etc.,), contributing to Dallas' first gospel endeavor, Darlene McCoy, remixing the hit single, "Fallen In Love," which originally gained much attention and fanfare on the soundtrack to the blockbuster Tyler Perry big screen debut, "Diary of a Mad Black Woman." He has also worked with other artists like Ghetto Mafia and EJ the Witchdoctor of the Dungeon Family.

After a much needed sabbatical dating from mid to late 2005, Tico has received instruction to get back to the business of doing damage to Satan's stronghold in urban music and entertainment as a frontline 'souljah,' independently releasing "The Incredible HudRock," an EP release chronicling his bout with betrayal and his own 'self-destructive' habits. Currently, Tico is preparing to release his official national solo debut release “What the World Needs Now” on July 3rd, 2007. A joint venture between Gozpul Music, LLC (headed by “Big Earl” Franklin and Terry “Did’um” Bolen) and PowwerHouse Productions, the project proves that “Rhema the Lion Tamer” is back and ready for combat.

For things to change, you must change.”

“For things to get better, you must get better.”

“If you want to predict your future then you must create it.”

Jim Rohn

I have come to realize the importance of this philosophy around personal development in my life, both in my relationships and my professional life. However, this is a lifetime quest and so I will always be work in progress!!

After over twenty-five years in law-enforcement, I have seen a lot of the bad things that people can do to each other. I have also experienced the effect that work stress can have. If you are someone working hard in a job and you want to know what your legacy will be, go down to the beach and write all about yourself in the wet sand. After the very next wave, you will see what remains of your legacy!!!

As a consequence, I found myself trapped and discovered that the only way out would be through my own actions..... I needed to find a way to escape the rat race. This has taken a little time, but I am getting closer to my goal.

If you find yourself in a similar position and want to do something about it, I would highly recommend downloading a free e-book from www.praxismentor.com that will give you 12 Proven Wealth Creation Strategies.

French Kiss

In the spirit of the 60's & 70's typical soul music, French Kiss mellow tunes are all about love and sentimental moods. With a subtle blend of Rn'B & Modern Pop, The French Kiss first album entitled All is beginning describe the everyday love in the everyday life. This experience involves a variety of situations. From smiles to tears, a palette full of feelings paint their songs.

Their vision of a pop music tainted with the warm colours of soul, funk & Rn'B, offers to their first album All is beginning, a genuine, refined and moving set of songs. The French Kiss sound trademark is based on distinctive characteristics, including the use of 70's vintage keyboards with jazzy tones and chorus along with funky drums, a prominent groovy and often melodic bass line, a funky rhythm guitar à la Chic & a massive game of call and response by the brillant vocalist Dave Eastman & the French Kiss backing vocals originating in modern Rn'B music. No need to say that Christophe Alary conducted his brass section at his best to provide a bright and classy acid jazz touch to the album.

60's, 70's, 80's, actually the sound is not that vintage... The studio work and way to produce, the arrangement and the mixing style are definitly at the top of the music trends. For sure, it reminds a kind of oldschool soul but it's more than that. In the same manner as the famous Jamiroquai's "Blow your mind" referred to us a soulful vintage ballade, but broke through the modern music chart during the 90's grunge area, French Kiss delivers every ingredient of the pop-cookbook to attract the attention of an audience keen on modern Rn'B and hit-songs.

Curtis Byron (bass) & Oliver Bowman (guitar) actually studio players met Dave Eastman (vocal) four years ago during tracking sessions. A nice friendship was born and they still share the same vision of music, songwriting and producing since then. With the same taste and music culture, what could they do better than teaming up to write modern soul songs? This was the birth of French Kiss.

Seat back, and put the record on. Listen to the music, it's coming straight from their heart. It's time to enjoy the sweetness of the French Kiss experience.

All is Beginning...

Bobby è il miglior funk-man d'Italia. First of all I have to apologies and explain my nickname: Bobby Soul might sound silly for a non-italian. Who the hell does he think he is, this is the first thing I would think if I’d bumped in such a name without kowing that Bobby Solo has been the italian Elvis Presley, a famous singer in the 60’s. So what may sound hilarious for an Italian gifted with a little sense of humour, in the rest of the world may only be understood as flat and imaginativeless. Plus I only recently discovered that a real Bobby Soul exists and he is the Bobby of Platters’ fame. So, flat for me, white and Italian, not definitely for him Afro-American. Anyway I'm real too, they have always been calling me like this and I suppose I'll have to hold on... And now let’s explain something about me andmy music. My hometown is Genova, a harbour city, tough and sober. I am father of 3 beautiful children. I started as a Deejay and Radio Broadcast speaker and I have always been playing and promoting any kind of Black Music, from Blues, to Jazz, to Soul, till HipHop, but expecially ‘70s Funk which is my favourite one. Way back when in the early 90’s I met some underground musicians in my home town that introduced me to the real music making. From that time I have been singing and playing for some cult bands like Voci Atroci (a bizzarre acapella quintet that recorded two albums for EMI records in the early 90’s), Sensasciou (a trio blending ragamuffin and soul music with traditional genovese trallalero choir, 6 albums for CNI, indipendent Italian record label specialized in World Music), Blindosbarra (4 albums, 2 of them with BMG-SONY, one of them produced by Ben Young of Massive Attack fame, considered as the best italian group performing original funk). Along with these recordings came a hot live business all around Italy and Europe. I think I sang in at least 2.000 venues. This year I recorded my first solo album called “Draghirossi & Buchineri”, on indipendent label Mo-beat Records. The title can be translated as “Red Dragons & Black Holes”, it does not sound so good in English but I love the way it sounds in Italian. I think it is my finest work, it contains 18 tracks and it is an heterogeneous trip though all kind of black music oriented styles I have attended throughout these years. All songs are originally written from me except a cover version of “Un uomo che ti ama”, by Italian sacred monsters Lucio Battisti/Mogol. If you wish to visit the site, although you might not understand italian, please take a ride for other Mp3s, pictures and videos. For further information please write me at Info@bobbysoul.it and thank you very much for the visit. I would greatly appreciate you to leave a message on the guestbook. Here you can get the CD, and of course you would greatly help on carrying on by buying it: CDBABY LINK for BOBBY SOUL: Draghi Rossi & Buchi Neri

benda

Marcus ''Benda'' Boyd was born Feb 4, 1981 into a body of love, determination and sincerity. His mother a licensed hair stylist/entrepreneur and father a musician & hustler gave him a very humbling balance. Wicker Park (West Chicago) a very diverse neighborhood which he enjoyed because of all the different types of culture and its training to make music for the world. Benda has been known to say''My grammar school was big as hell and I learned more there than I did in high school!'' Being faced with gangs and other harsh realities often left him with the ultimatum to make right decisions sometimes he did and other times he didnt. This of course isnt uncommon growing up in Chicago. His introduction to Hip Hop came from his older brother Marlo who also rapped. Following in the footsteps of his brother he came to find his true gift. Rocking a crowd at an early age came easy for him especially with the support of his brothers group ''Lerical Tribe''. Bouncing around in different groups didnt satisfy Benda. He wanted and needed to show his creative abilities on his own launch pad. Traveling from bus, to train, to plane a determined young Benda landed on the ''Jenny Jones Show''. After winning the talent show there Benda was offered a situation with ''Red Zone Entertainment''. Also a respect winning battle in the studio Benda gained the roll of hype-man for a local rapper named ''Gotti''. Next a new door opened with platinum rapper ''Belo'' of the group ''Do or Die''. As a business decision Benda did not accept the offer. Three years later ''Gotti'' was signed to ''R.Kellys label Rockland records''. For the first video which ''Boo & Gotti'' performed entitled ''I Wish'' (Remix) with R. Kelly Benda received some candid cameo shots. Back in the studio looking to take what he felt was his Benda had a chance encounter with ''Burundi (Bun P.) Partlow''. Not believing in his talent or networking abilities he offered Benda a opening performance for ''Twista''.Burundi's interest was sparked as Benda brought down the house. Burundi working on a song that Benda heard and said let me write to it was produced by ''Kanye West''. At Kanyes house Benda cut the vocals and everybody loved it this helped him to develop a mutual working and business relationship between him and Kanye. Also understanding the business more Benda worked with ''Hustle'' (marketing and promotions) firm as a paid intern. On the set of yet another video Benda faced another battle this time attracting attention from platinum producer''Steve Stone Huff''. In two days Huff had Benda down at Jive/Battery Studio recording. Buzzing off what happened at the video shoot Benda was given an opportunity to play music for ''Wayne Williams'' Sr. Vice President or A& R for Jive Records he liked what he heard and told Benda to stay in his face. The mixtape era was in its takeover mode and Benda scored big with DJ Scrap Dirty on a Violator Allstar DJs Mixtape with the song entitled Rub 1 Out (Xavier Exon Feat Elepahant Man & Benda). This was a Reggaeton smash before it was mainstream! Another catalogued favorite which also made it to stores was ''DJ D-Mans'' (Destroy & Rebuild Double CD Mixtape).DJ D-Man is known widely for his national aired house music anthems Booty Call & Dookie Booty. Benda was now ready for his shot at the spotlight. The deal came from (LegitBallaz/Koch Entertainment). Bendas first national release as part of the group ''LegitBallaz'' was released Feb 21, 2006 entitled ''THA TRUTH''vol.4. Preselling an estimated 13,000 copies the label was in no way disappointed in the overwhelming response it received for their newest arrival. Since this date he has been in numerous videos including ''Barnfire''for the Midwest monster group ''Crucial Conflict''. Benda has recently performed in Kankakee, Joliet, Chicago HOUSE OF BLUES,Excalibur,Radio Star, and Chicagos Puerto Rican Day Parade 2005&2006,plus the official back to school Juke with D.E.RECORDZ, Cap 1, and Crucial Conflict & Pheave. Benda has also had the opportunity to have been on stage with Kanye, Common, GLC,and Miltickit, plus an opening performance for R&B superstar ''Ne-Yo''! With hopes of a bright and successful career Benda hopes to be your next best artist.

Safi Connection

Safi Connection is Mishel Bitton (30) Mishel first started to make music back in ..97, where he released an album under the project ..Sonichaos... The Sonichaos album presented a very melodic approach that fitted the times back than. This album was released through Planet Music, a sub-label of B.N.E, a major player in the international Trance scene. Few months after the release of ..Sonichaos.. Mishel teamed with Avi peled, together they came up with the "Todra.. project, which had a much more matured musical approach. This project was instantly signed for the Krembo Records label and was released in ..98 with great responds worldwide. From that moment on Mishel started spinning music around the world and from exploring the international markets and trends Mishel felt that he must bring his ideas into life but with a whole new perspective and so he changed his musical direction and progressed to what everyone knows today as ..Safi Connection... Mishel started to work on the ..Safi Connection.. project in 2001, along with Tamir Ozana(aka .. Atomic Pulse), after polishing their first few tracks they signed a deal for an album to DJ Dede..s own label ..Spectrum Music.. and in early 2002 the debut ..Safi Connection.. album, ..Prince of Paranoia.. came to life. This album was distributed world wide through MDMA(rip) and it has created a mega buzz for ..Safi Connection..s music and shows, reviews and interviews came out in all the respected media, magazines, internet, dj..s charts and more. 2002 was a busy year for Mishel, it is the breakthrough year for him actually, since the release of the ..Safi Connection.. debut album Mishel and Tamir decided to go each on his own way, and so Mishel kept working on the ..Safi Connection.. project while Tamir continued his career as Atomic Pulse. Mishel released his music through many respected labels such as: Arcadia music .. Jp BNE - Israel 3DVision - Fr Spirit Zone Recordings .. Germany T.I.P World .. UK Transient - UK Shiva Space Technology .. Germany Spiral Trax .. Sweden AP records .. Germany Synergetic records .. Austria Candy Flip .. Greece Flow records .. Portugal Fragile planet .. UK Utopia - Israel Digital psionic .. Australia Agitato - Israel Spectrum Music .. Israel MDMA Music .. Israel Phonokol .. Israel Zodiac .. Japan Moon Spirits .. France Apart from ..Safi Connection.. Mishel also collaborates with Micha Yossef(aka .. Echotek) as half of the duo ..Neo Logic.. and on another joined project named ..Central Nerve.., both projects are getting strong interest throughout the globe so watch out for more news on these projects soon. More collaborations as Safi, with Space Tribe, Melicia, Sally Doolaly, Psykovsky, X-wave. At the moment Safi is working on a psy guitar project that would be as a live act Of 2 people, Liquid on Safi (Safi & live electro guitar player). Also known as B-Tone, a more progressive project. An album was released on synergetic records on June 2004, called ..B-Tone .. Mantra acts... All of Mishel..s projects (Safi Connection, Neo Logic, B-Tone , Liquid on Safi , Central Nerve) are known for having a top quality production with stunning fresh ideas, it..s the new style, its progressive full on trance, not the usual Israeli full on, twisted, funky and most important of all .. it rocks the dance floors everywhere around the world. This past 2 years , Mishel was booked to act as ..Safi Connection.. in Japan , Taiwan , Hong Kong ,France , UK, Greece, Portugal, Holland, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Italy, Israel , Macedonia, India, Brasil , Mexico , Argentina , Chile and the responds to each show were amazing ..

PLEX (Derek C. Levy) started writing songs at 10 years old. Growing up in New Orleans' 9th ward listening to his parents old Motown albums, helped him to hone his skills early on. Over the course of time becoming one of the best unknown songwriters there is. New Orleans' hottest DJ Wild Wayne (Q-93) recognized PLEX's talent and was about to hook up a deal with some labels for him to sell songs at the end of Summer 2005. All of this was put on hold by Hurricane Katrina. Some of you may recognize him from the storm footage. He was featured on every major news network in the nation. He also did a storm story update interview on 'The CBS Early Show' on the anniversary of the storm with anchor and family friend Tracy Smith. He was also promised a spot in Spike Lee's critically acclaimed HBO documentary 'When The Levees Broke...' by Spike's producer Butch Robinson. With all PLEX had been through, Mr. Robinson led him to believe he would be a part of the film until the last minute. It wasn't until a radio broadcast let it be known that production on the film had wrapped that he knew it was all a lie. Sick game to play on a man who had just had his life turned upside down. There was never an apology or explanation. PLEX would eventually pen and record the local hit 'Do Ya Know What It Means... To Miss New Orleans '06 (from the EP: The Chronicles Of Katrina: The Lyin' The Breach & The Hard Road) which was aired on Q-93 FM on the anniversary of the storm... once again Wild Wayne was the catalyst (big ups homie). Wild Wayne also helped to put PLEX in contact with Mr. John Monopoly (Kanye West's manager & President of G.O.OD. Music) to arrange a meeting with Kanye, and perhaps do a song about the hurricane. Unfortuantely due to Kanye's hectic schedule, as well his frowned upon comments about George W. Bush, things weren't able to pan out. Several people who PLEX had helped and/or rescued called into the radio station thanking Derek Levy for helping them during the storm while trapped in the convention center with his family for five days. The callers said they had seen him on CBS the day before and wanted to get in touch with him. They also requested the song which was featured on the CBS broadcast. Wild Wayne, only knowing him as PLEX put out a call over the radio and got PLEX in the studio for an on air interview. After rebuilding his studio from what was left by storm damage and looters, PLEX is back with a vengeance doing what he does best; writing platinum caliber hit after platinum caliber hit. Now working with Super-Producer T-Black of legendary TNT Studios, he's even more of a force. As a collaborative, T-Black's uncanny production skill is the perfect compliment to PLEX's lyrics. Don't say we didn't warn you. PLEX will be, and this is a promise. one of the most sought after songwriters/producers of 2008. And in 2009... the doorbells and phones won't stop ringing. You already know what it is. (Side Notes:) Venturing off into rap music for a while, PLEX gained local fame. He performed an impromtu song at the first Essence Festival with permission from hosts Queen Latifah & comedian Louis Dix. In 1996, he joined with rapper R-Sinik forming the group DRY EYZ. They gained a small local following and still perform together. In 2002 PLEX formed the Hip-Hop/R&B powerhouse known as Collabo City; a collective of seven producers and nine rappers. They spawned the local hits 'We Takin' Ova' & 'Drop It On The Floor' from the album 'Birth Of A Dynasty'. PLEX would like to personally thank those who have helped or try to help him over the years, especially in the trying times following Hurricane Katrina: Mr. Chris Miller (you are my brother), Dee & Donnell, Carla, Ms. Tracy Smith & CBS News, Mr. Wild Wayne, Ms. Lucille Leonard (of New England, Mass.), Mr. Kendall Bussey, Mr. Rob Mills, Ms. Thais Mills (of Lipserviceink.com; Rob's daughter), Mr. John Monopoly, Mr. Eddie Blackmon (Dir. of Mktg at G.O.O.D. Music), Sess-45 (N.O. Artist) & his Uncle Steve, J. Redd Washington & J. 'Diamond' Washington of RDM Studios (Marrero, LA.), General T. & T-Black. of TNT Studios (Avondale, LA.). Thank you all & may GOD's blessings and favor rain upon you & your families.

I have worked with various artists with different styles, but I am currently seeking gospel artists with an R&B feel. NYCSmoke

"NYCSmoke is distinguished by its combination of straight-ahead Rock Instrumentation and smarter than usual lyrics. Statland proves to be an astute observer of society and humanity."
--Billboard Magazine

"There isn't a better or more underrated rock band representing the Lower East Side right now than New York City Smoke. Ryan Adams wishes he could be Howie Statland"
--IRT Magazine

"The lyrics move across the guitars like snapshots of big city life, sometimes slipping into the shallowness of the gutters, sometimes flying between the skyscrapers, but always very street-tied and filling out the urban ache with raw honesty and tight rhythms."
--The Big Takeover

New York City Smoke has shared the bill with such acts as Interpol, The Bravery, JET, Franz Ferdinand, New York Dolls, and They Might Be Giants. Statland formed NYCSmoke in the aftermath of several years with Thin Lizard Dawn, the dynamic power-pop four-piece with two critically acclaimed releases on RCA Records. Statland also wrote, directed and scored the widely screened independent indie films Low Flame and NYCAria. He has also written movie scores for directors such as Ralph Steiner, and collaborated with composer Philip Glass.

NYCSmoke is made up of:
Howie Statland: vocals, guitars
Kevin Fox Haley: bass, vocals
Kim Henry: guitars, vocals
Matt Lewis: drums
Jesse Soursourian: keyboards
