"Understand" is Jimmy ValenTime's first official song and video, produced by the legendary Statik Selektah. "Understand" recalls early 90s hip-hop but does not copy any specific song or rapping style. A rapper who is a fan of the old school, but never feels he has to be a prisoner of it.
The video images are neither glamorous, nor glorified. Just a simple shot of life on a sunny afternoon in the Bronx streets that raised Jimmy.
Music Video Director, Derrick Dawkins, found working with the artist an exhilarating experience, saying “Production for the song titled "Understand” with Jimmy ValenTime was an adventure. We shot guerilla style on various streets in The Bronx and on the 6 train. We came up with a visual presentation of a rapper that has an important message for hip-hop fans."
Jimmy ValenTime adds “ “Understand” captures the music of my youth. My goal was to introduce this type of sound to the younger generation. I feel that NY has lost its identity. “Understand” and other songs on my album will help recapture the spirit of NY Hip-Hop.”
“Understand” is the first single from “Life in Amazin Times”. “Understand” is an LP that will be available as a free download for a limited time, and an EP version which will be available for sale on I-tunes this fall.
